This is a summary of my sermon for July 20, 2025 - the text was Acts 2:1-13 and deals with the Day of Pentecost and what really happened originally and how that got confused after 1800 years;
For more on that go to the home page and listen to the sermon in its entirety!

✨ Sermon Recap: "When the Spirit Speaks" – Acts 2:1–13📅 July 20, 2025
🎙️ Pastor Scott Westerman
🔥 Main Theme:On the Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was poured out on the believers—marking the birth of the Church. This was not chaos, but divine clarity. God empowered His people with understandable languages to proclaim His wonderful works to the world.

📖 Key Scripture:“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.”
— Acts 2:1 (KJV)

🧭 Sermon Highlights:
  • Jesus told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem, not knowing how long—but they waited together in unity, prayer, and expectation.
  • Pentecost (50 days after Passover) was:
    • A major feast (Feast of Harvest / Firstfruits)
    • A time when Jews from every nation came to Jerusalem
    • A picture of God’s provision and global reach
  • 120 gathered — a number symbolizing completeness and the forming of a new representative body of the Church.

💨 Wind, 🔥 Fire, and 🗣️ Tongues:
  • The sound of a rushing mighty wind filled the room—symbolizing the Spirit’s presence.
  • Cloven tongues of fire rested on each believer—showing personal empowerment for ministry.
  • They spoke in real, known languages as the Spirit enabled—heard and understood by people from 15 nations.
✨ “The Spirit doesn’t just make you feel something—He helps you say something others can understand.”

🧠 Key Applications:
  • Unity matters — The Spirit moves when we are in one accord.
  • The Spirit speaks to unify, not confuse.
  • The miracle of tongues at Pentecost was about clarity, not chaos--real languages for real people.
  • God still empowers His people today to share Jesus in ways others can hear and understand.

⚠️ A Word on Confusion:
  • Much of the modern confusion around “tongues” stems from non-biblical reinterpretations that began in 1901.
  • The early Church (and even early Pentecostals) understood tongues to be intelligible languages.
  • The true gift of the Spirit is not disorder but transformed lives, gospel proclamation, and unity.

🏁 Conclusion:✅ Pentecost reminds us:
  • God keeps His promises
  • His Spirit clarifies, empowers, and unifies
  • We are called to be people who are:
    • In one accord
    • Filled with the Spirit
    • Sharing Christ clearly
🙌 Let’s not chase spiritual noise—but spiritual clarity.
📣 Let’s preach the Savior—not argue over signs.
🌍 Let’s speak Jesus in a language the world can understand.
