Sermon Summary for The Unstoppable Gospel

10/3/2025

✨ The Unstoppable Gospel📖 Acts 4:1–22 | September 28, 2025
🔑 Key ThemeNo power on earth can silence the message of Jesus Christ. Opposition only proves the truth of the Gospel and gives the Church a platform to shine brighter.

📌 Sermon Highlights
  • The Collision with the World
    • The disciples weren’t criminals or rebels.
    • They healed the lame, preached Christ, lived holy lives, and pointed to hope in the resurrection.
    • Yet, the world was grieved at the truth.
  • The Gospel Cannot Be Stopped
    • Even as Peter and John were arrested, 5,000 men believed (Acts 4:4).
    • Opposition only fueled the spread of the message.
    • Paul echoed this unstoppable mission: “Woe is me if I preach not the Gospel!”
  • The Question of Authority
    • The rulers demanded: “By what power, or by what name?”
    • Peter, filled with the Spirit, declared: “By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth… neither is there salvation in any other” (Acts 4:10–12).
    • The Name of Jesus remains exclusive, powerful, and saving.
  • The Boldness of Believers
    • The council saw that Peter and John were “unlearned and ignorant men” — yet they marveled because they had been with Jesus.
    • Their transformed lives and the healed man beside them were undeniable proof.
  • Threats vs. Truth
    • The rulers tried to silence them: “Speak no more in this name.”
    • Peter and John’s response: “We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:20).
    • When men forbid Christ’s name, obedience to God comes first.
  • Application for Today
    • Expect resistance — truth always stirs opposition.
    • Evidence alone cannot change hearts; only the Spirit can.
    • A transformed life is the greatest testimony that Jesus lives.

🌟 TakeawayThe Gospel is unstoppable:
  • 🛑 Opposition cannot stop it.
  • 📢 Witnesses must proclaim it.
  • 🙌 The world cannot silence it.
👉 Be bold. Speak what you have seen and heard. The Name of Jesus still saves!

Sermon Summary from 8-24-2025

🌟 Sermon Summary“In the Name of Jesus”
(Acts 3:1–10)
The message from Acts 3 reminds us that the power of Jesus Christ is not locked inside the walls of the church but meant to transform everyday life. When Peter and John encountered a lame man at the Temple gate, an ordinary moment turned into an extraordinary testimony of Christ’s power.
Here’s what we discover:

🔹 The Power of Prayerful Obedience
  • Peter and John went to the Temple at the ninth hour (3 PM)—a regular time of prayer.
  • God often moves through ordinary habits of faithfulness: prayer, worship, obedience.
  • What seems ordinary to us is often where God shows His power.
  • Application: Don’t overlook the simple routines of spiritual discipline. God may break in at any moment!

🔹 The Power of Spirit-Led Compassion
  • At the Beautiful Gate, a man lame from birth was daily carried to beg.
  • The gate was stunning to the eye, but beside it sat human brokenness—a picture of our condition apart from Christ.
  • Peter and John saw him, really saw him—not just as a beggar but as a soul of value.
  • True ministry begins when we see people as God sees them—valuable, redeemable, and loved.
  • Illustration: Like the Good Samaritan who stopped, compassion opens the way for God’s power.

🔹 The Power of Jesus’ Name
  • The lame man asked for coins, but Peter gave him Christ:
“Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”
  • To act “in the Name of Jesus” is not a magic phrase. It means acting under His authority, will, and glory.
  • The healing was Christ’s work, not Peter’s power.
  • Faith is not demanding God to do what we want—it is trusting Him to do what is right (A.W. Tozer).
  • Application: In prayer, align your will with His, and His power flows through obedience.

🔹 The Power of a Changed Life
  • Immediately the man leapt up—walking, praising, rejoicing!
  • He who once sat outside the Temple now entered in, a picture of salvation:
    • Once excluded ➝ now included
    • Once broken ➝ now restored
    • Once silent ➝ now praising
  • His transformation became a public testimony—all who saw him knew it was real.
  • A changed life is the greatest witness. Programs can be debated, doctrines argued, but no one can deny the power of a life transformed by Christ.

✨ Big TakeawayThe power of Christ begins with:
  • One ordinary act of obedience
  • One moment of Spirit-led compassion
  • One step taken in the authority of Jesus’ Name
And that’s when the world takes notice.

Marks of the Church

8/18/2025

Here is a summary of my sermon from 8-17

✨ The Marks of a Spirit-Filled Church ✨Acts 2:41–47
When the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Day of Pentecost, the church was born. Acts 2:41–47 gives us a beautiful picture of what Spirit-filled church life looks like—not just a one-time revival, but a way of life.
🔑 Key Marks of a Spirit-Filled Church
  • 📖 Devoted to the Apostles’ Doctrine
    • The early believers anchored themselves in the Word of God.
    • Truth before fellowship, worship, and prayer—because doctrine keeps the church from drifting.
    • Application: Daily Bible reading, family worship, Scripture memorization.
  • 🤝 Fellowship (Koinōnia)
    • More than casual friendship—it means sharing life together.
    • Union in Christ, mutual belonging, and a common mission.
    • True fellowship means carrying each other’s burdens and living as a spiritual family.
  • 🍞 Breaking of Bread
    • Both the Lord’s Supper (remembering Christ’s death and looking forward to His kingdom) and shared meals.
    • A tangible way of experiencing unity and joy in Christ.
  • 🙏 Prayer
    • Both set times and ongoing intercession—prayer is the “breathing” of the church.
    • The Spirit came at Pentecost while the church prayed, and He continues to work through praying people.
  • 😮 Holy Awe & Signs
    • A reverent awareness of God’s presence (“a holy hush”).
    • Early wonders and signs authenticated the apostles’ message and advanced the Gospel.
  • 💝 Generosity & Sacrifice
    • Believers met each other’s needs with voluntary, Spirit-led generosity.
    • Not forced communal living, but love in action—“love answering need with open hands.”
  • 🏠 Daily Life Together
    • Meeting daily in the temple and in homes, sharing meals with gladness and sincerity.
    • Faith was not a weekly event—it was a way of life.
  • 🎶 Joy, Praise, and Growth
    • They lived with gladness, praised God, and had favor with people.
    • And the Lord Himself added daily to the church those who were being saved.

📌 Takeaway for TodayThe early church didn’t have buildings, budgets, or brand identity. They had something better: the Spirit of God, the Word of God, and the people of God bound together in holy devotion.
  • Leaders: Preach the Word, lead in prayer, open your homes.
  • Members: Open your Bible, your heart, your table, your wallet.
  • Together: Be the church—not an event, but a family on mission.
🕊️ “And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” — Acts 2:47

Important Notice from Bethabara Baptist Church

8/11/2025

Important Announcement
In July 2025, Bethabara withdrew from the General Baptists Freedom Association and became Bethabara Baptist Church.
We believe the Bible clearly teaches the eternal security of a true believer—that those who are genuinely saved are kept by the power of God and cannot lose their salvation. In 1949, the General Baptist denomination changed its position to teach that salvation could be lost, a view we believe is contrary to Scripture.
Our conviction is not simply to ask, “How can you lose your salvation?” but rather, “How can you keep it apart from the keeping power of God?”
We now joyfully stand as an Independent Baptist Church, holding to the historic General Baptist doctrine as it was taught prior to 1949, remaining committed to the authority of Scripture and the message of salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone.

Gods Plan the Cross

8/4/2025

✨ Sermon Summary: “God’s Plan, the Cross” (Acts 2:22–28)📅 Message Date: August 3, 2025
📖 Scripture Focus: Acts 2:22–28
🔥 Overview:This week, we stepped into the heart of Peter’s sermon at Pentecost—a powerful declaration that Jesus’ death and resurrection were no accident. In Acts 2:22–28, we see the divine strategy of God unfold, showing us how sovereignty, suffering, and salvation came together on the cross.
Peter pulls no punches:
  • Jesus was approved by God through miracles and signs.
  • His death was planned by God yet carried out by wicked hands.
  • His resurrection was inevitable, foretold by David in the Psalms, and proven in power.
✝️ Why Did Jesus Die?Not because of a mock trial or mob hysteria—but because it was God’s determinate counsel and foreknowledge. God knew man’s sin, and still, He chose the cross as the best way to save us.
“God didn’t just predict the cross—He purposed it.”
💡 Key Truths from the Message:
  • ✅ Jesus was endorsed by God — His life, miracles, and message all bore the Father’s stamp of approval.
  • ✅ The cross was not man’s idea, it was God’s plan — even though man’s sin nailed Him there.
  • ✅ The grave could not hold Him — because He is Life itself. You can’t bury the Creator and expect Him to stay buried!
  • ✅ Prophecy foretold His resurrection — David saw it in Psalm 16, and Peter confirms it as fulfilled truth.
  • ✅ God’s plan is good—even when it’s hard — Romans 8:28–29 reminds us that our trials shape us into the image of Christ.
“God doesn’t just plan your steps—He shapes your soul.”
🕊️ Why It Matters Today:
  • Your salvation was planned before the foundation of the world.
  • Your suffering is never wasted—it’s part of God’s refining work.
  • Your Savior is alive—and He’s interceding, walking with you, and preparing a place for you!
Because He lives, you can face tomorrow. 🙌

📣 Final Invitation:Have you surrendered to this Jesus?
You were on His mind before the world began.
He died because of your sin. He rose for your victory.
Will you give your life to the One who gave His life for you?

First Gospel Sermon

7/29/2025

Below is a recap of my sermon for July 27, 2025
📖 Bulletin Summary:The First Gospel Sermon – Acts 2:14–24
On the Day of Pentecost, Peter—the once-fearful disciple—stood boldly to preach the very first Gospel message. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, Peter declared:
  • 🔥 These are the days of fulfillment – God is keeping His promises through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
  • ⏳ These are the last days – A time of mercy, visions, and prophecy before the Day of the Lord.
  • ✝️ These are the days of God’s Savior – Jesus, crucified by man, was raised by God. Death could not hold Him!
The message is clear: “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
The Gospel is still the same today: Jesus is alive, and salvation is available to all who believe.
📢 “The world doesn’t need a new message — it needs the original Gospel.”
🙌 Jesus is still Lord. Amen!

✍️ Poem for the Bulletin:“This Is That”
The fire came down, the tongues appeared,
The doubters mocked, the faithful cheered.
Peter stood where fear once reigned,
Proclaiming Christ who bore our shame.
“This is that,” the prophet said,
The Spirit falls, the Word is spread.
The last days dawn with dreams and signs,
Salvation flows through Heaven’s lines.
The sky will darken, trumpets sound,
But grace and mercy still abound.
Whosoever calls today,
Finds the Light, the Truth, the Way.
Though death had gripped with iron hold,
The tomb released what Heaven told--
Jesus lives, the grave undone,
The risen Savior—God’s own Son.
So preach this truth, don’t change or bend,
The Gospel stands till history’s end.
The world may scoff, but still we say:
Christ is Lord—both then and today.

The Day of Pentecost

7/22/2025

This is a summary of my sermon for July 20, 2025 - the text was Acts 2:1-13 and deals with the Day of Pentecost and what really happened originally and how that got confused after 1800 years;
For more on that go to the home page and listen to the sermon in its entirety!

✨ Sermon Recap: "When the Spirit Speaks" – Acts 2:1–13📅 July 20, 2025
🎙️ Pastor Scott Westerman
🔥 Main Theme:On the Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was poured out on the believers—marking the birth of the Church. This was not chaos, but divine clarity. God empowered His people with understandable languages to proclaim His wonderful works to the world.

📖 Key Scripture:“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.”
— Acts 2:1 (KJV)

🧭 Sermon Highlights:
  • Jesus told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem, not knowing how long—but they waited together in unity, prayer, and expectation.
  • Pentecost (50 days after Passover) was:
    • A major feast (Feast of Harvest / Firstfruits)
    • A time when Jews from every nation came to Jerusalem
    • A picture of God’s provision and global reach
  • 120 gathered — a number symbolizing completeness and the forming of a new representative body of the Church.

💨 Wind, 🔥 Fire, and 🗣️ Tongues:
  • The sound of a rushing mighty wind filled the room—symbolizing the Spirit’s presence.
  • Cloven tongues of fire rested on each believer—showing personal empowerment for ministry.
  • They spoke in real, known languages as the Spirit enabled—heard and understood by people from 15 nations.
✨ “The Spirit doesn’t just make you feel something—He helps you say something others can understand.”

🧠 Key Applications:
  • Unity matters — The Spirit moves when we are in one accord.
  • The Spirit speaks to unify, not confuse.
  • The miracle of tongues at Pentecost was about clarity, not chaos--real languages for real people.
  • God still empowers His people today to share Jesus in ways others can hear and understand.

⚠️ A Word on Confusion:
  • Much of the modern confusion around “tongues” stems from non-biblical reinterpretations that began in 1901.
  • The early Church (and even early Pentecostals) understood tongues to be intelligible languages.
  • The true gift of the Spirit is not disorder but transformed lives, gospel proclamation, and unity.

🏁 Conclusion:✅ Pentecost reminds us:
  • God keeps His promises
  • His Spirit clarifies, empowers, and unifies
  • We are called to be people who are:
    • In one accord
    • Filled with the Spirit
    • Sharing Christ clearly
🙌 Let’s not chase spiritual noise—but spiritual clarity.
📣 Let’s preach the Savior—not argue over signs.
🌍 Let’s speak Jesus in a language the world can understand.

the Bible in one page - God's story and ours

7/15/2025

📖 The Whole Bible in One Page: The Story God Keeps TellingCreation. Rebellion. Redemption. Restoration.
That’s the arc of the entire Bible—from Genesis to Revelation, from the books of the Law to the Gospels, from the Psalms to the Prophets, and even through the Apocrypha. The Bible isn’t a scattered collection of ancient writings—it’s one unified story about God’s relentless love and His invitation to live as His people in a broken world.
1. God Created a Good World and Made Us for RelationshipThe Bible begins with beauty: a world formed by a wise and loving Creator, who made humanity in His image. He gave people value, dignity, and purpose—to reflect Him, enjoy Him, and care for His world. But something went terribly wrong.
2. Sin Entered the World—and Everything BrokeThrough pride and disobedience, humanity turned from God. The result was pain, shame, separation, and a world that groans under the weight of sin. But even in judgment, God made a promise: He would make a way back.
3. God Chose a People to Be a Light to the NationsFrom Abraham to Israel, God formed a covenant people. Through laws, sacrifices, kings, and prophets, He revealed His holiness and His mercy. The Old Testament is filled with God's repeated call to faithfulness—not just through rituals, but through lives of compassion, integrity, and justice.
Biblical justice isn’t about politics—it’s about living rightly with others. It means caring for the poor, the widow, the orphan, and the outsider. It’s treating people with fairness, defending the vulnerable, and living in a way that reflects God’s righteousness.
4. Jesus Is the Fulfillment of Every PromiseThe New Testament shows us God in the flesh. Jesus Christ is the long-awaited Messiah—the Lamb who takes away sin, the Teacher who reveals the Father, the King who conquers death. On the cross, He bore our rebellion. In the resurrection, He brought new life.
His message wasn’t just about heaven later—it was about transformation now: hearts made new, enemies forgiven, communities healed.
5. The Church Continues the MissionAfter Jesus rose and ascended, He sent His Spirit to empower His followers. The Church was born—not as a building, but as a people on a mission. Their calling? To share the good news, care for one another, seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
6. The End Is Really the BeginningThe Bible ends where it began—only better. A new heaven. A new earth. Every tear wiped away. Evil defeated forever. The story closes with God dwelling once again with His people, in perfect peace and joy.

💡 What’s the Bible Really About? It’s not just a rulebook or a religious history. It’s a love story. A rescue mission. A roadmap for a life of purpose. At the center is a God who says:
“You are broken, but I love you.
You have sinned, but I will forgive you.
You are lost, but I have come to bring you home.”
